Supplied tasks
Several tasks were created during installation that enable the
user to use the program immediately.
Supplied tasks list:
- Scan: local disks
The task will scan all the executable files and the OLE documents
on all of the local hard disks of the computer in question. If
ALWIL Antivirus finds a virus, it will announce this through a warning
message and an audible alarm (if the sound card is installed in the
computer). The task will announce every virus found. The compressed
files and operating memory of the computer are to be tested, too.
The system area of each of the disks will be checked as well. If no
virus is found, a dialog announcing the task finished with no virus
detected will appear.
- Scan: interactive selection
The task will run the same tests for the presence of viruses as the
previous task, but before the test itself, the user will be able to
select which areas are to be tested. It is of course possible to
select several areas at the same time.
- Scan: diskette A:
This task performs the same test as the two previous tasks, but
they are done on the diskette in the drive A:. We recommend running
this task for all potentially infected diskettes. In particular, it
concerns diskettes that were used in other computers or by other
users. Additionally, the system area of the diskette (i.e. the boot
sector) will be scanned.
- Resident protection. This task scans (according to the
settings) all started applications or opened documents and protects
the computer in the background while you continue to use it. The
task contains several providers (special modules) to protect
particular computer parts, e.g. file system or e-mail. The
providers can be set separately. Resident protection is started
automatically on system start. It is recommended to leave the
protection running as the effectiveness of ALWIL Antivirus is at a higher
level. More information can be found in Resident protection
chapter.
- Special tasks.
These are tasks of special meaning in the ALWIL Antivirus program. The tasks
are: Screen saver and
Explorer extension.
